McDowell House Museum is a historical site and house museum located in Danville, Kentucky. Every day, personally guided tours are given through the house and apothecary where Dr. Ephraim McDowell lived and worked. In 1809 Dr. McDowell led a pioneering and dramatic surgery that was thought to be impossible. A 22.5 pound tumor was removed from a brave woman named Jane Todd Crawford. She went on to live another 32 years and died at the age of 78. Come and hear the amazing story, see beautiful antiques, and appreciate the lovely gardens! (Note: We are closed for lunch everyday from 12-1, and we do not start new tours after 3:30)
